What is Sustainable Design?

Effective sustainable design is a comprehensive approach to selecting and integrating products and processes that account for long-term consumer satisfaction and environmental conservation.

Forests are one of the most valuable natural resources in the world. More than 1/3 of earth’s population is reliant on what our forests can provide, from firewood to biomass fuels. Not only does wood have countless uses but it is also indisputably beautiful, especially when it is used to create furniture or to build a home.

Wood can help to earn points in categories typically found in green building rating systems—including certified wood/reused/salvaged materials, local sourcing of materials, waste minimization, indoor air quality, advanced building techniques and skills, and life cycle impacts.

Light commercial, multi-family and single-family residential projects with extensive use of wood have achieved top-level certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system, Green Globes and other green building certification systems.

At Greenport Construction, our priority is to research, design, build, and manage sustainable custom millwork and infrastructure to maximize lifecycle and economic value as well as the net contribution to environmental and social functions and services.
